Glass from the Past houses a number of artists who have either been trained by Caroline Weidman or have come to be a part of the studio through the work they have produced in their own right. The new gallery opened in July of 2009 and all the students and artists contributed a square for the Gallery sign. Chloes' Maelstrom piece is also pictured plus the start of an architectural job destined for a house in Chelmsford.
Caroline and Pete established the studio together. Pete brings the thinking and problem solving skills he has developed as a senior manager in a public sector organisation and Caroline brings her experience of being an artist for over 20 years. Together they have created a thriving community of artists who are creating some fantastic items.
Caroline studied Fine Art at Birmingham Polytechnic, graduating in 1983. She has worked in a range of mediums including paper, stone and glass. Sculpture has been a passion throughout and she exhibited complex structures in paper during the 1980's. Click here to see Carolines early work.
In 1995 Caroline began stone carving. She creates traditional figurative carvings in limestone and is a member of the Shoebury stonecarvers group. Click here to see Carolines stone carving. She uses the principles of sculpture in her work with glass which brings in the dimension of colour.
The studio undertakes a broad range of work, including restoration and design of traditional stained glass to more contemporary kiln fired designs.
